About

Sally Kane was born in 1968 in Tucson, and raised in an environment that inspired a passion for style and cuisine that has defined her life ever since. Her family’s restaurant, the Tack Room at Rancho Del Rio, boasted Arizona’s first wine cellar and was awarded the southwest’s first Mobil 5-Star rating.

As a young adult, Kane studied at the California College of Arts & Crafts, landing her firmly in the middle of California’s culinary renaissance. She spent every penny she had tasting her way through the classic eateries of the Bay Area from La Farine to Chez Panisse. Sally has worked as a dishwasher, prep cook, baker, recipe developer, barista, bartender, and waitress at restaurants across the world, from Berkeley to Galway to Nashville to San Miguel de Allende.

With strong ties to the community, an ardor for food and drink, and a deep love for her hometown Sally opened The Coronet in 2014 – a rustic old world style brasserie where classic sensibility meets international cuisine. In 2015 she became a partner and took over management at Agustin Kitchen, and the following year opening AKA Deli & Bakeshop. In 2019 Sally decided to focus solely on The Coronet. The Coronet moved into the historic Cushing Street where the journey continued with the addition of a sweet day time cafe Fonda la Hermanita, located on the same property.

Now, in the time of COVID-19 The Coronet runs out of the little cafe and serves three beautiful courtyard patios for breakfast lunch and dinner.  The main dining room and two private dining rooms remain closed.

She is grateful to be able to still tread these waters.

P.S. Sally receives no monetary compensation for writing this blog.  She visits restaurants she loves, buys the vittles & eats the vittles! Yum!
